“Violin Trompe-l’oeil With Abraham Lincoln”

I drew and painted this from life in my studio using objects I had...my great grandfather’s silver pocket watch, a feather I still have, an old sheet of music, an old letter dated 1914 which I changed to be addressed to me in Roanoke, a decorative pull-cord that when this painting is displayed also has the actual cord hung on the outside of the frame next to the same cord in the painting, an old violin I bought, a crumpled photo of a framed portrait of Abraham Lincoln that appears to be taped to the cabinet doors... I made up the doors because when I originally posed these in my studio they were hung on a piece of plywood. This painting is very much in the tradition of the many great American Trompe-l’oeil artists such as Charles Wilson Peale, John Peto, William Harnett, John Haberle.. and others who were mostly from Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. My painting is all original and was created in the spirit of those great 17th and 18th century American Trompe-l’oeil painters.
